When you see people wearing these, many people think it’s because they want to look like idols or because it’s a fashion item. Actually, it’s because of fine dust (미세먼지).
Fine dust is comes from fumes caused by coal, fossil fuel, and cars. According to a study in 2017, 59% of the fine dust comes from China and 41% from Korea. Fine dust has also become a top reason for cancer in Korea. Since these fine dust are too small to see with the eye, they can easily be breathed in and end up in our lungs. And when this happens to a daily basis, you can end up getting cancer.
