I didn’t know cheetahs meow I’ve always thought they roar my whole life has been a lie

Ok but the other one is purring so hard

If I ever don’t reblog this assume I’m dead

shit you learn while doing writing research: generally, cats that can meow and purr can’t roar, and cats that roar can’t meow or purr. it’s said to be one of the distinctions between ‘big cats’ and other felines. cheetahs don’t necessarily fall into the big cat category, despite their size. 😦

Dinotopia is a fictional utopia created by author and illustrator James Gurney. It is the setting for the book series with which it shares its name. Dinotopia is an isolated island inhabited by shipwrecked humans and sentient dinosaurus who have learned to coexist peacefully as a single symbiotic society. The first book has “appeared in 18 languages in more than 30 countries and sold two million copies.”Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time and Dinotopia: The World Beneath both won Hugo awards for best original artwork.

God these images still send this ENTIRE thrill through me. They just evoke that feeling of being a child with a book too large for you, staying for so long on a single picture that you feel like you could turn around in it.

Gurney consistently produces a world that feels completely reasonable and real. The color, the light, the relationships between fore- and background,

the fact that it seems like a real world, where people are engaging in perfectly reasonable cultural activities…

The natural gestures, implying the personalities and relationships of characters in a single image…

And it’s quite creative. I mean, look at this pair of bagel sellers. WHAT A GREAT WAY TO SELL BAGELS?

I feel like there is so much to learn from the way Gurney does his work – his blog is here http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.com

by me, a fool who doesnt wanna die anymore

  1. never make a suicide joke again. yes this includes “i wanna die” as a figure of speech. swear off of it. actually make an effort to change how you think about things.
  2. find something to compliment someone for at least 4 times a day. notice the little things about the world that make you happy, and use that to make other people happy.
  3. talk to people. initiate conversation as often as you possibly can. keep your mind busy and you wont have to worry anymore
  4. picture the bad intrusive thoughts in youe head as an edgy 13 year old and tell them to go be emo somewhere else
  5. if someone makes you feel bad most of the time, stop talking to them. making yourself hang out with people who drain you is self harm. stop it.

That’s some pretty good advice. I don’t know what’s left of my humor after ‘guess I’ll just die’ jokes but it’s worth a shot.

Personally i went from “guess I’ll die” jokes to “IF I HAVE TO BE HERE FOR 5 MORE MINUTES I PROMISE YOU I WILL BUY JUST, AN ARRAY OF CLOTHES.” and other wild hyperbolic stuff. Just replace the death part with something ridiculous and off topic. Its very entertaining

This also works with calling myself things like stupid, worthless, trash, etc. Even if you do this jokingly to yourself, your brain still believes it, and keeps up the cycle. Seriously, I found that when I stopped saying these things about myself, even jokingly, it made a massive difference.

Here’s a tip I picked up from a friend that’s helped me a lot — replace self deprecating jokes with ironically self aggrandizing jokes

Like every time I trip and fall, instead of saying “l’m just a disaster human” I say “I’m the epitome of grace and beauty”

Or like, when I draw a picture I’m not 100% happy with, instead of saying “my art is trash” I say something like “you know I think it’s time we replaced the Mona Lisa”

When you do that you get to make a joke, but you’re ALSO getting practice building yourself up, y’know?

And eventually it becomes a reflex and you get so used to it that you can say nice stuff about yourself even when you AREN’T joking

My mom woke me up and was like “get up let’s go to the market” so I was like ‘okay’ and I got up and got dressed and went out into the kitchen to see my mom just waking up still in her robe and she turns to me and I’m confused because she was just dressed? So I was like “did you just tell me to get up and go somewhere with you or did I dream that??????????” And she was like “…. no… I was thinking about waking you up in a few hours to ask if you wanted to go to the farmers market with me though…”

So like I had a dream she woke me up to go to the farmers market that was real enough for me to get up and get dressed only for her to tell me she had only thought about waking me up to go to the farmers market????

I was just like “yeah well you think too loud it woke me up” and went back to bed because like ??

It’s starting…

This reply is omenous and slightly terrifying
