Ted the Animator: “Yeah, that’s pretty awesome. Great use of perspective… even the magically-conjured fin isn’t too noticeable.”
Carl the Animator: “What magically-conjured fin?”
Ted the Animator: “…er… nothing. You did a good job.”
Carl the Animator: “This whole sequence needs more tension. I’m gonna use that shot a second time.”
Ted the Animator: “What, just… again, in its entirety?”
Carl the Animator: “Nah, like, a shorter version.”
Carl the Animator: “So it feels even faster, and spookier.”
Ted the Animator: “…I mean, it is a cool shot, that’s not too out-of-place to use unmodified again.”
Carl the Animator: “And later in the chase, while they’re freaking out about the robo-sharks…”
Carl the Animator: “…they turn to see him again, and… well… it needs to be dramatic and all….”
Ted the Animator: “…Carl, we can’t use the exact same shot three times within 34 seconds.”
Carl the Animator: “It doesn’t have to be exactly the same! Like, this time, I can… uh…”
Carl the Animator: “…er… use one frame fewer than last time!”
Ted the Animator: “…riiiiight.”
Carl the Animator: “Boom. Totally distinct. It’s like they say, ‘if it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing.’”
Ted the Animator: “’…and if it’s worth overdoing, it’s definitely being done by Carl.’“
Carl the Animator: “Hey, I can live with that. At least I have my own saying.”
*at the end of the episode*
Carl the Animator: “Check it out, I used the shot again!”
Ted the Animator: “Oh, Carl, that’s DEFINITELY too many ti–”
Carl the Animator: “Just look, ok?”
Ted the Animator: “…well, aside from the fact that he teleports forward like his sharks have a laggy connection… that’s pretty great.”
