Casual reminder that Remus Lupin was not “the nice one”, he was the one who held onto a grudge so hard that 20 years later he humiliated his colleague in front of a group of 14 year olds to make himself look cool.
Neville had just been humiliated by Snape for no reason other than being in the same room as him. Remus was helping Neville, showing him he could do the spell Snape had just cruelly suggested he couldn’t, and giving him something to smile about as well. It had nothing to do with Remus wanting to look cool and everything to do with him wanting Neville to feel good about himself. Snape is not the victim in this scene, if he didn’t treat Neville like a piece of shit he never would have been his boggart in the first place. Neville is the victim here.
